Favorite educational show

This guest post from Daryl Glass

My mum and dad are television mad. They love to watch it every day whilst telling me not to spend to much time on the computer. To me it does not figure. They watch http://www.expertsatellite.com daily and their favorite program is the most intense program that I have ever seen called The Deadliest Catch. It is a reality program a bit like Big Brother only with much more action and swearing. The Deadliest Catch is based around giant crabs which can be found on the sea bed of the Bering Sea. My parents watch it on the Discovery channel and I have watched it because I needed to do an assignment for school and decided to do it based on the fishing of these monstrous crabs.
The way the crews bond like a family in such a short space is intriguing. If my family were in a small space like the crew are they would argue every fifteen minutes and my dad would probably throw my uncle overboard. The engineer on the boat called Wizard really cracks me up. Lenny Lekanoff is his name and he is just like my dad, short tempered and can fix any electrical item with a screwdriver and a sledge hammer. This is an excellent program which I will recommend to my children to watch.

Family Piling In

Easter has always been a huge deal in my family and everyone expects me to come up with some gourmet brunch ideas after church on Sunday. I usually do the same old thing with ham and eggs and smoked salmon but this year I wanted to do something special instead so I’ve been looking up recipes using my wireless from www.wirelessinternetproviders.net and I think I’ve found some good ones. I know my husband’s going to be particularly excited about the cheese and bacon quiche and my mom is definitely going to love the ambrosia salad I found…it’s got lots of pecans, her favorite. The kids won’t eat any of it (they never do) but I don’t care because I’ve bought four egg dying kits to keep them busy. I even got a huge chocolate bunny to hide outside where they can have a huge Easter egg hunt after the meal! It’s going to be a good holiday and I can’t wait for my family to get here so I can get to cooking!

Get The Chill Out

Since it has been very cold in the RV again from the dropping temps outside, I wanted to find a way to keep the chill out.  I did some looking around at my local home improvement store and then it dawned on me, drafts were coming from doors and windows.  I found these great weather stripping rolls and immediately brought home 3 of them.  I found that the doors and windows had weather stripping on them, but where they touched the RV was just metal.  I then added this weather stripping and found that things stayed much warmer.

I still wasn't as happy as I knew I could be so I started looking for other ways to keep the RV warm.  I noticed that around the roof vents, lots of air was coming in, especially when it was windy.  I inserted a Camco roof vent insulator and noticed that after a day or so, the temp warmed up about 10 - 15 degrees inside!

With the combinations I mentioned above, you could keep warm for a very cheap investment.

Care for that engine!!!

If your like me and put hard towing or heavy mileage on your tow vehicle, then you are going to want to protect that engine.  I use and recommend in all diesel and gasoline engines the Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer.

All you do is add one of these to your next oil change by replacing one quart with this oil additive.  This will keep everything nice and slick and will help prevent spinning a bearing, throwing a ring, or even just running a quart low on oil.  This product is pure petroleum based that equals, won't burn off.

Check it out with your next oil change!

Shine some light on the subject....

If your like me, hitching up in the dark is quite a task.  Why not shine some light on the subject with a 12 volt utility light?!  I have installed two of these lights in the bed of my truck using my in-bed toolbox as a mounting point.  I ran a wire to the cab of the truck where I can turn these lights off and on at will.  They are great for backing up, hitching up, and warning off those tailgater's when they get too close for comfort.

Happy camping and see you down the road.

Lighten The Load with ebooks

With the holidays rolling in fast and steady, I thought I would touch on a great gift idea.  Fulltime RV'ers don't have the largest amounts of storage and this can make carrying heavy bulk books a drag.  With the Kindle, all your books are electronic and ready at the touch of your finger.  Why not invest in one of these for the reader in your life.  You will not only be getting them the latest and greatest technology, but you will also be lightening your load and claiming your storage back!!!

The best part of the deal is you can download and read all of your camping magazine issues from http://www.fulltimefamilies.com as the issues are all ready ebook friendly!

Happy holidays from Camping America!!!

Keeping Warm In The Winter Efficiently

Right now we are camping in the warmest place in the country, and still the nights are in the 30's.  South Florida is supposed to be in the 60's - 70's this time of year, so I can't even imagine how cold the rest of the country must be.

Keeping warm in a camper can be very expensive if using the propane furnace.  That furnace will eat through a bottle or two of propane in no time flat.  I have found that compensating with a ceramic space heater can help save your fuel for when you really need it.

I bought 2 of these space heaters to assist in heating my 35' 5th wheel.  This space heater has a self adjusting thermostat causing the unit to only kick on when more heat is needed.  If you set your propane furnace for 65 degrees and then set these up on the higher side, this will cause the furnace to only kick on if the temp drops below 65 in your camper.  This probably will not happen due to the ceramic heaters get hotter than they look for the size.

Keep warm and see you down the road.
